SLOW TO REMEMBER! The new day ushered in so peacefully, September, two thousand one. Twin towers standing firm and tall, In the New York City sun. A nation, which was at peace, Until 8:21 a.m. that day. How could those horrible images, So easily fade away? Patriotic pledges and vows came quickly, Our fallen will not die in vain. We'll fight terrorism and suppliers, Punishing those who were to blame. America, so slow to remember, Now you stand against her in protest. Following those with hidden agendas, On whatever serves them best. America, what happened to your memory, Your backbone and your nerve? Can you blindly turn a head, To what we did not deserve? Remember that we were at peace, So where's the lesson learned? Oh, how quickly we forget, The day that our country burned. B.G. Wetherby Enchanted Mountain Poems |
